Acquire the Science Weapon on Groundbreaker: Outer Worlds Quest Guide
10 September 2026 | 7
Navigating the Halcyon colony in The Outer Worlds requires a powerful arsenal, and few armaments match the sheer utility of Science Weapons. The Groundbreaker ship hides one of the most potent weapons in the game, known as the Prismatic Hammer. Unlocking this special melee weapon requires tracking down subtle environmental clues and navigating a hidden section of the vessel.
Starting the Quest and Gathering Clues
Your search for the Groundbreaker Science Weapon officially begins aboard your ship, The Unreliable. By inspecting the captain's terminal in your private quarters, you can read log entries that hint at unique weaponry scattered across the galaxy. To make tracking easier, you can also visit Gladys in the Rest-n-Go establishment located in the Groundbreaker Promenade. Purchasing the Battered Mardet Datapad from her provides direct direction regarding the location of the hidden stash.
Locating the Secret Room on Groundbreaker
To reach the hidden compartment, head towards the Customs area on the west side of Groundbreaker. Turn into the crew quarters or dormitory area where several bunks are set up for workers. Look for stacked freight crates near the entrance, which allow you to jump onto the upper bunk beds. From the top of the bunks, crouch down and crawl through a hidden ventilation duct in the wall to access the secret room.
Dealing with Hostiles and Securing the Hammer
Once through the duct, you will enter a secluded repair hangar occupied by hostile outlaws and a mechanical unit. Neutralize these enemies carefully to secure the area. Looting the body of the Outlaw Squad Leader reveals the Repair Hangar Keycard needed to open the locked door nearby. Inside the small office behind this door, you will find a safe sitting on a desk that contains the Prismatic Hammer.
Prismatic Hammer Capabilities and Build Synergy
The Prismatic Hammer stands out due to its ability to cycle through different damage types with every swing, including shock, plasma, and corrosive energy. Investing points into your Science skill amplifies the damage output and expands its area-of-effect wave attack. Players can also upgrade the weapon at any workbench through tinkering to maintain its effectiveness into the endgame.
