Navigating the classic Kanto region in Pokemon FireRed offers players a variety of hidden challenges and legendary encounters outside of the main gym challenge. Among the most rewarding optional areas to explore is the abandoned Kanto Power Plant, which serves as the exclusive home to rare Electric-type creatures. Discovering this industrial facility requires specific field moves and strategic map awareness that many players overlook during their journey.

Prerequisites for the Journey

Before attempting to locate the industrial ruins, trainers must acquire the Hidden Machine for Surf to navigate the open waterways. This crucial water-transport technique is obtained deep within the Safari Zone located in Fuchsia City after finding the Secret House. Additionally, defeating Koga at the Fuchsia Gym is required to utilize this specific field move safely outside of active battles.

Navigating the Cerulean Waterways

To begin the physical trek, fly directly to Cerulean City and exit toward the eastern boundary onto Route 9. Travel along the rocky paths, battling the local trainers until you reach the grassy patch right before the entrance of the Rock Tunnel. Instead of entering the dark cave system, look directly north to find a small patch of open water flowing along the cliffside.

Following Route 10 to the Destination

Approach the edge of the riverbank and use the Surf ability to place your party on the moving water. Carefully follow the linear aquatic path as it winds eastward and then breaks sharply down toward the southern map boundaries. Cruising along this specialized river corridor bypasses standard land barriers and leads directly to a hidden beachfront property.

Entering the Abandoned Facility

Disembark onto the solid ground at the end of the waterway to officially reach the isolated section of Route 10. The massive entrance to the facility will be fully visible on the left side of the screen past a lone trainer. Stepping inside opens up a dangerous maze filled with aggressive wild encounters, valuable items, and the legendary bird Zapdos waiting at the end.
